Numbers are numbers, and accounts payable/receivable, audits, taxes, and other things don't really change that frequently.
The biggest change in the profession is the computer software out there to make it faster, more accurate, and reliable.
So unless a company wants to free form and spend their money without recording it, you could be an accountant for the rest of your working career. (Assuming you were good at it, and the company is still around.)
