Im 26yo, Unemployed, Live at Parents House, Cant Find Job, What to Do?

My situation seriously sucks, sometimes I just want to cry because I feel like a total failure. So my story is that I graduated from highschool in 2002, I went straight to college at 17yo, graduated with a B.A. in Economics with a double minor in Finance and Managment Information Systems at the age of 22. I moved back home at about 23yo, landed a temp job at a big corporation, then the temp job ended. Since early 2008 I have been unemployed, Ive applied to hundreds of places, if not thousands.

I have crappy communication skills, well not really, Im just introverted so I dont talk as much as employers may like. It seems that to be worthy in this market you must have a certain type of personality, and thats just not me. Since 2008 I have continued going to school, in fact after I graduated I never stopped going, and I have about 3 additional A.S. degrees on top of my B.A. in different fields, Art/Electronics Engineering/and Physics so about 300 total college units, this doesnt seem to have helped my chances at employment either.

I have applied at Target, at Dineyland, at corporate level jobs, Michaels art supply, as a janitor, as a electronics assembler, just so many ENTRY ENTRY level positions. Either I dont get called back, Target/Michaels/janitor/assembler/and countless other jobs, or I get called back, Disneyland, and I mess up the interview because Im not as outgoing as that 18yo highscool dropout. I seriously lose jobs to highschool kids, which is sad.

I feel that corporate america gives jobs to the stupidest people out there, I know of two people in particular, both never finished highschool, 1 is the Vice President of a large corporation, he makes $500k a year and I know him personally, hes not very bright, BUT HES A SMOOTH TALKER. Another person I know, also a highschool failure, stole almost 100k from a company, she lies and says she has a B.S. in Accounting, she has problems remembering her times tables, and she gets jobs ALL THE TIME, starting pay $50k, shes not very bright either, BUT A SMOOTH TALKER.

WTF is wrong with America, is this how we reward college gradautes, by handing out jobs to idiots instead of them. I seriously feel that corporations need to have their hiring process taken over by the government so that decent hardworking people can get jobs TO LIVE. They either tell me I dont have enough experience or that Im overqualified, WTF do you mean overqualified, the word qualified is in there, so hire me.

So back in the laboratory aty parents house, I sit at home while idiots get hired left and right, I cant even get a job at grocery stores, you know why, because here will come little miss airhead with 10yrs of experience under her belt. Then they will compare me and her, say, well she has experience, ALL HE HAS IS AN EDUCATION, ERRRR, lets hire the airhead. EXPERIENCE IS BULLSHIT…unless you are an engineer or in some VERY technical field, experience is worthless and teaches you only a small portion of what a college graduate learns.

Im VERY intelligent and I feel thats its a waste of my brain to not be able to do anything with it. I do work on my own inventions and gadgets all the time, but I just dont have the money to do anything great with my brain. Also, Im an AMAZING ARTIST, I have no doubt that when Im dead my art will become famous and be worth lots of money, but in the meantime I am a failure, because I gradauted at the wrong time, and grew up with the wrong personality and grew up in a world where stupidity is admired.

Can somebody, please give me some advice, Im tired of living at home, of not being able to move on with my life or find a mate because Im a loser, Ive considered suicide many times, and have even considered living in the street and just being homeless. What makes me even more upset is that I come from a family with money, and they know how sad I am about my situation, yet they dont try to invest in me or my ideas, Im not asking for a handout, but If my own family doesnt believe in me…why should someone else.

I seriously dont have any faith in Americas future, AT ALL.

Suggestion:

Your too educated, an over achieving failure.
You obviously tell everyone you education, big deal.
You say you AMAZING this and that, but your not making any money at anything.
Try getting a real job; construction, warehouse, manufacturing, learn how to deal with real men.
You think everyone is below you but they have jobs, you don't.
You should understand that education is good, but experience counts for allot.
Get over your self.

Try your best.

I am not trying to hurt your feelings, but you sound like a educated IDIOT, that is too smart for your own good. what I mean is if you talk at a job interview, like you write, you could be turning people off. you have a lot of ME,ME,ME. I I I, I need give me give me. next time you go to a interview just don`t say so much, listen and ask simple questions. you scare most interviewers because your smarter and more educated then they are, you just might get their Job, if they hired you. don`t say much about your schooling, or very much about yourself. I know it sounds silly, you don`t have to act stupid. just let them know, they will have to train you and show you the ropes, you know what I am saying?Someone told me once that if you find yourself in a hole you can`t get out of,STOP DIGGING. get out and try something else. Don`t give up, when you do get your foot in the door, then take some big steps. GOOD LUCK your buddy Jimmy Lee

Welcome to our sh*tbag economy. Unemployment is 9.6%. I'm 20 and I'm in college but haven't had a job in over 6 months and I've had interviews and applyed everywhere and I was cooperative. You could say I was perfect but I still can't get a job.

Have you considered trying some volunteer work? You would get to meet some people and it would give you something current to put on a resume. Even 10 hours a week would help you to network.

Don't feel bad about your situation, people are suffering like this all over the country. I have seen it happen before, in the 70's and early 80's. Some day the economy will clear up, and there will be a job for you.

Whoa, take a couple of deep breaths here. I know you're frustrated, but being homeless is not something you should wish for at any point in time. Has the person you know who stole 100k from the company ever faced charges? Its messed up to see someone get away with that and get jobs all the time on top of it. Maybe she sold her soul to the devil (kidding, although I can see why you're irritated by this).
The job market is very tough right now. There are a lot of people in the same boat as you. It may seem unfair to you that your family doesn't try to invest in your ideas, but be thankful that they are providing you with food and shelter for the time being. Take it one day at a time. Find some sort of hobby, no matter how big or small it may be, and take what little joy you can from it. Keep looking for jobs, but learn to get over rejection sooner than later. If you get rejected, then see if there was anything you could have done differently that could have changed the outcome and learn from it. If you get rejected for not having enough experience, there is not much you can do about it, but don't let it make you bitter and shake it off. You've dealt with all this for this long, so you are capable of seeing this through until you do find a job no matter how long it takes. Good luck.

Calm down. There is nothing wrong with you. You got your degree when the economy crashed. I know the college crowd really pumps people up telling them they are going to get these high paying jobs as soon as they get out of college. Its not true. Everyone has to start at the bottom. Rite now though no one can find a job
My spouse lost his job in a construction trade,$80,000 a year. By the way the college educated engineer made $50,000 a year. But of course he didn't have to work physically. HIs job ended in 2008. He retired early but took a lower monthly check for 2 reasons. 1) wall street crashed so did his pension 2) taking it early. We had another type of pension that was our life savings. It took a 50% decrease when wall street crashed. Oh yeah the white collar college educated folks up on wall street sure did a great job.I'm suppose to be impressed because they had an education ?
I was in a union trade but had left some time ago to stay home with children. I tried to get back in when he lost his job.But they aren't hiring. No one wants to hire me because I have been out of the work force. I'm not available all hours because of childcare. If you pay childcare for minimum wage jobs its not worth working at all.
I even attended a vocational school that did not get me a job. But I now have a $10,000 student loan. I thought about staying in school but I feel that running up debt is not the answer.
I recently got a job at a Target store through the holidays. I'm hoping if I do a good job they will keep me after wards. Plus I told them I can work any hours every weekend.
I made $12.00 an hour in 1989 with pension and medical plan.
I have just recently come to accept my situation. I had applied for hundreds of jobs before I got this one. Just remember any job is better than no job. When you apply where it says salary write any. Don't put down all the college, it won't get you hired.
I don't want to hurt your feeling but sometimes people with educations think they are smarter than other people. Their not. Education makes you educated not necessarily smart. If I was you I would quit going to school running up more debt.
My father retired in his forties. His family has 12 siblings. 9 are worth a million or more. Their education level is the 8th grade. I quit school and got a GED and my spouse graduated high school and went into a trade. None of us our stupid people, just not educated. I have friends that have massive student loan debt. I have a home almost paid off. While they were running up debt calling me uneducated I was putting away for retirement and paying off a home.
Come down off your high horse. Have you looked into something in the medical field ? They seem to be robbing the nation. Have you looked into substitute teaching at a school, not college. Don't get me wrong but sometimes educated people have no common sense. You have to be strong.
Me niece graduated with honors. The first college educated person in our family. She is living in her parents basement. Working at the family gas station and paying off student loans. She did americorp for a while. Maybe you should try that.
Go to church it helped me. I will pray for you and you pray for you. Hang in there. A lot of people are down rite now.
