Hi …..
Thank you for your e-mail – I just got back from Europe yesterday.
I noted that you are quite interested in my VAT skills. I have set out below some of my experiences relating to VAT work plus the level of commitment and contribution that I look forward to bring to Taxand if I am hired. There’s a lot more, and if required, I will be more than happy to give you a ring to have a chat.
Just a way of reminder, GST is a consumption tax, and it should be tax neutral for business enterprises unless there is a leakage of input tax recoveries such as if the enterprise is not registered or makes tax exempt supplies.
My experiences and strength surrounding VAT is quite strong both compliance and advisory:
• Compliance- preparing VAT returns quarterly and monthly for larger clients using approved accounting package by “Her Majesty” Revenue & Customs (HMRC). Also I have experiences in preparing VAT working using excel spreadsheet for smaller companies.
• I have a sound knowledge of double entry bookkeeping. I am quite familiar with both accounting standards – IFRS and UK gap. As such, I will be able to provide technical and professional advice to client employees, prepare them including setting up IT and accounting systems for the GST input and output taxes. In addition to all this, I can provide ongoing support to clients re GST post implementation stage.
• Compliance with law – As part of compliance visit, I can advise and ensure clients keep proper accounting records for input and output taxes and I can ensure they are claiming all input taxes which they are entitled to. I can advise them on deadlines to avoid penalties; surcharge and ensuring all correspondence with Revenue are dealt with on time. I have considerable experiences in dealing with HMRC VAT enquiries therefore, I can go extra miles.
• Advisory and educating clients- There are always resistance to change, even change for the better. In my opinion educating on this new method for both businesses and Individuals is essential especially their mind set. This requires lots of soft skills including demonstrating to them with reasonable examples that this new GST re indirect tax does not lead to double taxation. It will also take pride in informing them that goods are subject to GST tax.
• Others- I can bring competitive advantage to Taxand due to the fact that I have UK and EC VAT knowledge.
In a nutshell, I anticipate that the GST implementation for the first 12 months or so will require close supervision and I can ensure you that I have the set skills, I have outstanding attention to detail, I am highly organised and good at planning things far into the future and have lots of soft skills which is important for the tax world.
Suggestion:
Thank you for your e-mail.

Note*** You tend to have run on sentences. This is a busy person. Give him the bullet points. Lose the excess words. Busy people appreciate getting the plain facts. Also, don't preach or talk down to him. Assume that he knows everything you do. If he does have a question, then that 's a good reason for him to call you and give you a chance to elaborate. I got rid of misused words( You don't want to say you have strong strengths). You need to be sure that your verbs and nouns are either both plural or both singular. You mixed them up a couple of times. Words and phrases like also or in a nutshell are turnoffs. They convey no real meaning. I do not comprehend your statement in Other. Please clarify.
