Suggestion:
If you have an account, you're going to get charged, it's pretty simple. You're still on the books, in the computers, etc. Just taking the money out won't do it, you have to close the account.

You will just have to close your account – with the low balance you have – they are
not making any money – Wells Fargo has a less than honest name right now along
with Bank of America – -you'd be better off to find another bank – but most all charge
a maintenance fee now for all accounts -
Close it! Open in a different one that actually will pay you interest on your checking account. I know it's not going to be a lot, but they will pay you instead of charging. Check your local banks and what they can offer you.
You would do the common sense thing and CALL Wells Fargo and change the type of account you have with them. You should never be charged to have a checking account.
